What I have Learned From the Ulitmate Blog Challenge!

What I have Learned From the Ulitmate Blog Challenge!

Here it is the last day of January already.  I can't believe how quickly this month has passed.  I have enjoyed doing the Ulitmate Blog Challenge.  I have learned so much, and I have made many new friends from doing the Ulitmate Blog Challenge.  What have I learned from doing the Ultimate Blog Challenge?  I will tell you.

I learned Blogging Isn't About Money

I have learned that if you are thinking about getting into blogging for the money you should forget all about it and try something else.  According to a survey that was done on 1500 blogger only 13% of them made any money at all from their blogs and most of them made less than $100 a month.

I learned that I should Change My Blogs

I learned that if I want to make money from my blogs I need to make many changes to my blogs.  One,  I need to make it easier for people to follow my blogs.  Two, I should think about starting a newsletter of some sort. Three, I should rethink the advertisers that are on my blogs.

I Learned That I Need More Content On My Blogs

None of my blogs have been around for that long.  I have only been blogging for about a year.  I tend to blog when the feeling hits me. Doing that blogging challenge has shown me just how important it is to post something every day.

Now, I have four different blogs, and it is hard enough to keep up with one blog.  I have discovered that this blog and my review blog are the ones that I should be giving priority to if I even plan on making any money with my blogs.

I Learned That I Should Have a Plan For My Blogs

I learned that you should have some sort of plan for your blog.  You need to know a little about SEO writing.  You should try and plan your articles using SEO articles.

I have learned quite a bit from doing the Ultimate Blog Challenge.  It had made me look at blogging in a totally different light.  I have a lot to think about after doing the challenge.  The biggest questions are will I still be blogging?  Why will I be blogging?  And, who will I be blogging for?   I will just have to think about it and see what happens.

Powerful Vision Board

Powerful Vision Board

Over the few months, I have been reading many articles on vision boards.  I am a firm believer in the power of positive thinking.  Yes, I do believe that it not what happens to you in life that matter but rather how you see things and react to them that matters.

A vision board is a board that you make using photo and sayings that have meaning to you.  You should place your vision board in a place where you can see it every day.  I have mine in my living room.  I do most of my work in my living room, and I see the board many times a day.

My Powerful Vision Board

My powerful vision board is centered around my writing.  The main focus of my board is the middle part.  I wish to be able to make a living as a writing.  This has always been my dream ever since I was a child.  So, there are photos of mock book covers, money and the name I blog under.  There is also a drawing that my son did.  I wish for him to be able to make a living with his artwork that it why that is there.

The right of the board is filled with different spiritual saying and ways heal the chakras.  The left side of the board has two basset hound puppies.  My dog Leelee is getting older, and I don't think she is going to be around much longer.  I keep dreaming about two basset hound puppies, so that is why they are there.

Under the basset puppies is a photo of my son Mark with Leelee.  You can see in his face how happy he is; I wish for him to live a life of that much happiness.  That is why that photo is there.

The photo of the house represents my dream home.  I have always wanted a small house with a lot of trees and flower around with a porch near a body of water.

The photo of Leelee is there because she will always be in my heart.  I would love to be able to open an old dog's home, where I take care of older dogs that no else wants.  My vision board is very simple but a very powerful vision board to me.

Can't Believe She Left Seven Years Ago!

Time goes by so fast.  I can't believe it has been seven years since my mother has passed away.  I am the youngest but the most like her.  Even up until the end she was a very strong-willed woman.

A mother is so much more than just a mother, she is a best friend.

A mother is there to help you celebrate the goods things that happen in your life.

A mother is there to help you through the hard times in life.

I was only 35 when I lost my mother to cancer.  I still miss her and think about her.  I can't believe she left seven years ago, today.

Did I Expect Too Much, Too Soon?

Did I expect too much, too soon?  Blogging takes time.  It takes time to build a following.  It takes time to know just what type of ads you should place on your blog.  You have to learn many new things that you did not even think about before you started blogging.

I have done a lot of research on blogging and how to make my blog better.  I have only really been blogging for a year.  If,  you count that I had to start all over again because of a tech problem.  I have only been blogging for a little over six months.

One of the most important things you need when you are blogging is content.  You need to have lots of content on your blog.  Yes, you could pay writers to build up you content, if you would like.  But, I am a writer.  My blogs are all very personal to me.  I write all of the content on my blogs myself.

I have met many bloggers, who have been blogging for years and have not made a dime off of their blogs.  They keep blogging because they are writers who love to write.  That is me.  I am not the best at marketing.  Although, I have taken many courses in marketing and read many articles about it.  But, I am not a good salesman.  I will not push anyone into something that they do not want.  I learned that when I was young.  I did telemarketing for years.  Not the line of work I should have gotten into.

I was hoping to make money from my blogs right away.  I thought, that if I placed ads on my blogs, that was all I would need,  somehow the money would come but, that wasn't true.  With anything, there is more than one way of doing things. I am determined to make a living with my blogs.  Where there is a will, there is a way.  And, I will find a way that suits me.   I will continue to build up my content for now.

It takes times to build a blog.  I wanted a lot from my blogs way too soon. I expected, to get more out of them than they could give.  I guess I have read way too many get rich articles about bloggers.

Know When to Rest

People tend to put their heart and soul in everything that they do.   I am no different.  I am a writer.  That is all I ever dreamed of doing. But, writing many hours a day every day it not easy.  There are times when you need to walk away and get some rest.

When writing is a part of you soul, it's not easy to stop doing it.  Life is not all about writing.  All writer need to know themselves well.  They need to know when it's time to rest.

You have to give your mind a break from writing so it can recharge.  Good ideas don't come easy for everyone.  Some writers push themselves too hard.  They write for days on end not taking a break or getting away.  When a writer does this, they can develop burnout.

Know when you need to rest.  Know when you need to walk away and recharge.  I love to read, watch movies or T.V., go for walks, and spend time with my family.  These are all good ways to rest.  They can also be wonderful ways to find new inspiration for what to write next.

George Harrison Told the Story of My Love

George Harrison Told the Story of My Love

George Harrison over the course of many songs has told the song of my love for my husband.  I first saw my husband four years before I even met him.  From the moment I saw him, I wanted to get to know him. It just wasn't in the cards until four years later.  Over those four years, I asked everyone I know about him.

George Harrison " I Got My Mind Set On You"

When I met my husband, he was at the point in his life where he had been through so much; he didn't even know if he wanted to me be with anyone.  He swore that he would never tell another woman that he loved them.  Yes, he did tell me, I love you. But, "Handle With Care" by the Traveling Wilburries summed up things.

"Handle With Care" the Traveling Wilburries

Our love was different.  We didn't play games.  We seemed to have fallen deeply in love quickly.   After four years we had a child.  A lovely little boy.  We had been through so much up to this point, but it only made our love stronger.  I lost my father shortly after my son was born.  My husband was my strength.  "What is Life" by Goerge Harrison pretty much tells it all.

"What is Life" by Goerge Harrison

We have been together for twenty-one years.  We have had our ups and downs.  But, we have always stood by the others side.  We have supported one another's hopes and dreams when all others said to give up.  There is nothing in the world like true love, when two souls come together and become one.  We have shared so much pain, love, joy, and happiness but,  our love has made it through it all.  "All Those Years Age"  by George Harrison completes it.

Ultimate Blog Challenge Day 24: A Theme Songs For Your Blog

A Theme Song For Your Blog

A theme song for your blog. It is not easy coming up with a theme song for your blog. There are so many great songs out there.  The song that I came up with is a theme for my blog, but also I song that goes out to my family.  This song fits me and who I am.  But, it also fights my writing drive and my love for writing.

Bryan Adam's Song  Everything I Do, I Do It For You

Bryan Adam's Song " Everything I Do, I Do It For You" is the song a choose for the theme song for my blog.  Writing is such a huge part of who I am.  I have been fighting to become a well-known writer all my life.  Writing is worth fighting for because I have always loved to write.  I still hold onto my childhood dream of becoming a published author.  "Everything I Do, I Do It for You" is how I feel about writing.

This song also fits how I feel about my family.  Everything that I do, I do for them.  My husband has always been very supportive of my dreams, and he wants to see me make them all come true.

My Online Writing Journey

When I first starting writing online ten years ago.  I started at two sites Squidoo and Helium.  I started just by posting my poetry and short stories.  Over time,  I learned how to write articles and that there were many sites out there that would buy your articles out right.  I also learned how to look for clients.

Writing For Clients and Problems that May Arise

I quickly got a few clients,  that I was writing for on a regular basis.  Within three years I was doing very well, and I was happy with the money that I was making.  I did run into a few problems.

people not paying

people wanting way too much for little money

people that are never happy with what you give them

Knowing My Weakness and Working on Them

I know that I am not the greatest at grammar and I do make mistakes.  But, my husband is one of those people with amazing grammar skills.  He would have made a great writer if he liked to write. I would have him proofread all of my writing.

Over time my writing has gotten better.  But, the whole writing world has seemed to have gotten worse.  It seemed like everyone in the world wants to write, so there is much more competition out there.  So many people do not want to pay as much.  Plus, like I said, I am not the greatest at grammar, and there are people,  who are a lot better than me out there.  I do use three different spelling and grammar checks but nothing is perfect, and you can still make mistakes.

I was no longer happy ghost-writing. I wanted to start doing my own thing.  I started writing on a few different writing sites.  I was trying to find my niche.  I wrote under many different names, and I wrote on many different subjects.   I read up on how to write different types articles.  I tried my hand at just about everything I came across to see what I enjoyed writing about best.  It did take me some time but, I did find my place in the writing world.

Gained Knowledge Means a Change in Plans

At the end of last year, I thought, I had come up with a great writing/blogging plan.  I thought I had figured out the perfect blogging plan for myself.  Well with anything when you learn new things our plans change. Gained knowledge means a change in plans.

Where Did the I Gain of the New Knowledge?

After doing the Ultimate Blog Challenges and reading many different articles on blogging, I realized that I must once again go back and create a different plan for each one of my blogs.   My perfect writing plan was just that I perfect time fit writing plan for me and what I wanted to do with my writing. Now, that I have more knowledge,  of how to help my blogs grow and hopefully be able to make some money from my blogs.  I have to go and create a blog plan for each one of my blogs.

After doing much research, I have discovered that for money making purposes, I should change my main blog from the Spiritual Mystic to My review blog.  Now, I have not been giving my review blog much attention.  But, I have discovered that review blogs to very well and often you can find companies that will pay you to post reviews on your own blog.

What I Will Do With the Knowledge I Gained

I have not been posting very much to my review blog for a few reasons; one I have been doing the Ulitmate Blog challenge using my writing blog.  Now, this blog was originally set up to share some of my short stories and poetry.  But, I have discovered that I can get more out of it by sharing the writing ideas and things that I learn along the way.  In other words, this blog will become more of a way to help other bloggers learn how to improve their blogs.  I will do this by writing articles as I discover new things in my blogging journey.

In past articles, I mentioned that I need to start posting more articles. Posting more article is important because after doing some research I have discovered, that most places that will pay you for posting on your blog want a few things from you before they accept you.

1) You Must have your own blog; they will not pay you to post articles on  blogging sites.

2) Your blog must be a minimum of three months old

3) Some place want you to have a certain number of followers as well

4) You must have a certain number of articles posted to your blog

5) You must post to your blog anywhere from 5-7 times a week

While all of these things are legitimate and are understandable, none of my blogs are at this point, yet.  So now I have to go and set up a good blog plan for each of my blogs.  I am determined to make money with my blogs.  I know that it is going to take time and hard work to do this.  I am more than willing to do what it takes,  to make my blogs successful.

What Would My Mother Say to Him Today?

After reading a touching post by Martha DeMeo about her grandson.  Here is a link to her post. http://themarthareview.com/going-down-memory-lane/  I could not help but think about my mother and son.  They were very close.  She passed when my son was eleven.  But, she still watching over him.

Like Martha, my son has every card that my mother ever gave him.  He has some special things that once belonged to her in a box that he hides in his closet.  I know that seven years later he still misses her.

This year seems to be the hardest on him because of two big things that are going on this year.  He will be eighteen in less than a month, and he will graduate high school this year.  He wishes that my mother could be here to share in these two events with him.

This got me to thinking, what would she say to him, if she was alive?
She would tell him how she missed him and how proud she was of him.  She would let him know, just how strong he is for making it this far.  She would let him know that he can make all of his dreams come true.

Day 19 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge: What's On Your Bucket List

Day 19 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge: What's On Your Bucket List

I am having a lot of fun doing the Ultimate Blog Challenge.  I have learned so much from my fellow bloggers.  Day 19 of the Ultimate Blog Challenge the suggested topic is your bucket list.  I have also been a very simple person who enjoys the simple things in life.  My bucket list isn't that big, but I know by the time I die I will have everything crossed off my bucket list.

Brenda Marie Fluharty Clapp's Bucket List

1) I want to have at least one published novel
2) I want to see my son live out his dreams
3) I want my husband to have his guitar shop
4) I want a spiritual shop/ bookstore
5) I want to travel to Europe
6) I want my dream house near a body of water
7) I want to open an old dogie's home

Have at Least One Published Novel

I have always wanted to be a writer.  I have dreamed about it since a very young age. So, it's no wonder the number one thing on my bucket list is to have at least one book published.  Self-published books would not count.

See My Son Live Out His Dreams

What parent doesn't want to see the children live out their dreams?  My son is a good artist.  These days all he dreams about is being able to make a living with his art. It does not matter to his which art he goes into; he just wants to be an artist.  He likes to draw, take photos, and make cartoons.  I would love nothing more than to be able to see him live out his dreams.

My Husband's  Guitar Shop

On a small scale, my husband already has a guitar shop.  He and his friends build costumes guitars out of the house.  I would love to see them have this on a much bigger scale.  I want them all to be able to live off of the sales from their costumes guitar shop.

My Spiritual Shop/ Bookstore

Since I was in my late twenties, I have dreams of being able to open a shop where I sold spiritual products.  I want to sell herb, candles stones, books and other things.  I would also practice Reiki out of my shop.

Travel to Europe

I have always dreamed of visiting England.  I would love to visit Europe and visit all of the castles and beautiful country in Europe. The amazing thing about this is that my husband wants to do this as well.

Dream House Near a Body of Water

I am a Scorpio.  Scorpio is a water sign.  We get our strength from being around water.  I have dreamed of owning a nice little home near a body of water.  It does not matter if it is a lake or by the ocean.

An Old Doggie's Home

If you have been following me for any amount of time, you know, that  I own a dachshund named Leelee.  Leelee was a shelter dog that no one else wanted.  She was returned to the shelter many times.

I have read many articles about how people will drop their older dogs off at a shelter because they do not want to deal with them anymore.  I want to open an old doggie's home.  I would take care of older dogs that no one wanted anymore.

There you have it, Brenda Marie Fluharty Clapp's bucket list.  My bucket list may not be long, but everything on it means a great deal to me.  I hope to cross everything off of my bucket list before I go on to the next world.

Childhood Dreams Do Come True to a Degree

The Ultimate Blog Challenge for day 18 is childhood dreams.  My childhood dream was to be a writer. When I was six years old I had no idea there were many different types of writers.  All I know was that I wanted to be a writer.  I had written many poems and short stories.
me at the age of six

Yes, even by the age of six.  I was always written something when I was a kid.  I wrote so much that my grandfather would buy unique notepad just for me.  He kept them in the cabinet by his chair.  When my family lived in Pennsivaina, that is where my grandparent lived.  My favorite spot to write was on the cabinet by my grandfather's chair.

where I love to write when I visited my grandparents

I have dreamed of being a writer all my life.  There is more to that dream than just being a writer.  I dream of the day that I can make a living with my writing.  I started blogging about ten years ago.  Blogging and freelance writing was a good market when I started.  I was not making great money, but I was making enough for me to be happy.

There are more writers getting into freelance writing. Now people don't want to pay what you are worth.  I read somewhere that 90% of the population want to be writers.  So, there is an overflow of competition out there.

I am someone who never gives up.  There is always another way.  I started my blogs about a year ago.  I have learned so much in that year.  But, there is alway more to learn.  I know, that one way or another I will make a living with my writing.

I am working a few different novels.  I write for a few different writing sites.  I  have my four blogs that I write posts for often.  So, I am living out my childhood dream to a degree.

What Is the Shadow Self?

"It is a frightening thought that man also has a shadow side to him, consisting not just of little weaknesses- and foibles, but of a positively demonic dynamism. The individual seldom knows anything of this; to him, as an individual, it is incredible that he should ever in any circumstances go beyond himself. But let these harmless creatures form a mass, and there emerges a raging monster." ~ Carl Jung, “On the Psychology of the Unconscious.”

The shadow self is that side of yourself that you hide from yourself.  The part of your unconscious mind that the conscious mind does not want to face.  In other words, the shadow self is the darker side of personality. The part of yourself that you do not want to except for whatever reason.

The shadow self that part of you that you do not what the world or yourself to see.  The shadow self is those deep dark secret and desires that we all hide.  The shadow self is the side of you that you do not want to admit to, but it is still a part of who you are.

Because the shadow self is filled with what we all seem to see as the darkest sides of ourselves, we do not like to explore it.  It is through that if one can break through the subconscious mind and reach the shadow self that much soul healing can take place.  Or course this could take many lifetimes to achieve.

There are those that believe this why we are here on Earth.  We are here on Earth to help one another and heal the planet.  As we help those around us and the Earth heal, we will manage to face and heal the shadow self.  It is believed with many lifetimes of healing the shadow self will disappear.

January Has Never Been a Good Month for Me

January has never been a good month for me.  I lost both my mother and father in January.  The snow and cold weather make it tough for me to move and get around. I suffer from Altiris and sciatica; the cold weather makes both of these worse.  I rarely have a good start to the new year.

I have started burning a blue candle in honor of my mother since she has passed.  The two weeks before her death that she was in the hospital, I burned a candle every night.  I know when the candle could burn no more she would be gone.  Sadly, I was right about this, a couple of hours after the candle had burnt out for the last time, my sister called me to tell me my mother was gone.  So, every year the last two weeks of January I burn a blue candle for her.

I do my best to keep moving and active in the wintertime.  Moving around does help with arthritis and sciatica. There are times when the pain is very bad, and I have to rest.  Lucky for me my family does understand this, but it seems to get worse every year.  I have discovered some exercises that are helping.

January has always been a hard month for me.  I do my best to get through it.  I can not wait for this winter to be over.  There are significant changes coming around springtime. I look forward to the days to come.

What I Learned From Two Weeks of Doing the Ultimate Blog Challenge!

What I Learned From Two Weeks of Doing the Ultimate Blog Challenge

Here we are two weeks into the blogging challenge.  Time goes by so fast.  In the first week, I was without a computer for a couple of days.  I did manage to catch-up with the challenge.  I have learned so much from doing the Ultimate Blog Challenge.

1.  I learned that  I blog or write for myself
2. If, I want to make money with my blog I need to do things differently
3.  I need to write much more than what I do
4. I need to have detailed  plan for my blogging

I learned I Blog for Myself Doing the Ultimate Blog Challenge

Learning that I blog for myself during the Ultimate Blog Challenge is nothing new.  We all blog for ourselves.  We love to write, and we want to share what we love to do with other.  What I did realize, is that if I want to make money with my blogs, I have to look at them a little bit differently.

I have always had a layback look at blogging.  While, there is nothing wrong with having a laidback view of blogging. I am not going to make any money doing things this way. If,  want to make money with my blog; I am going to have to do things differently.

I Learned From the Ultimate Blog Challenge That I Need to thing Differently

I love to write; that is why I started blogging in the first place.  I was writing on many different writing sites.  These writing sites were disappearing like hotcakes.  They were all going out of business.  Many other writers that I know starting their blogs because of this.  I jumped right in and decided to start blogging myself.

I have also written because I enjoy writing.  Making money from my blog would be nice, but it did not matter if I made money or not.  Well, that wasn't entirely true.  I was hoping that I would make money with my blogs.  I never thought of looking at my blogs as a business.

I learned I Need to Write More From the Ultimate Blog Challenge

I only post to my blogs when I feel like it.  I  need to a plan for any of my blogs.  I have read up a lot on affiliate marketing, business planning, and advertising or promoting.

Doing the Ultimate Blog Challenge in only weeks I have gotten as many views to this blog as it has taken in six months of working on the other blogs. On of the reasons for that is because I have been posting here every day.

I Learned From Doing the Ultimate Blog Challenge that I Need to have a Plan for My Blog

I have learned from doing the Ultimate Blog Challenge that I need to have a detailed plan for my blogs.  There is no way that I will even stop writing for fun.  Writing is just a part of my soul.

I have realized, I want to set up, my main blog differently.  I want to make up a detailed plan for the Spiritual Mystic.  I also want to do a lot more posting there.  I will start off by looking at the Spiritual Mystic blog more as a business.

I have learned a lot so far from doing the Ultimate Blog Challenge, and it is only half over.  I am sure that I will pick up a lot more tips and great advice from other bloggers on how to make my blogs much better.  Have you learned anything from doing the Ultimate Blog Challenge?
